This is the “old” covenant established at the founding of EBC. It has simply been re-worded to correspond to each phrase in the statement of vision. 1. I will be devoted to Christ… By loving God with all my heart, soul, mind and strength. By worshipping regularly. By praying regularly. By living a holy life in imitation of Christ (Mark 12:30 NIV) Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' (I Thess 5:17-18 NIV) pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 2. I will be devoted to each other… By acting in mutual love toward others. By speaking only for encouragement. By bearing others' burdens as they bear mine. By pursuing the unity of the Spirit. By forgiving one another and putting up with one another. (1 John 4:11 NIV) Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. (Rom 12:10 NIV) Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. (Eph 4:29 NIV) Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (Gal 6:2 NIV) Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. (Eph 4:2-3 NIV) Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 3. I will be dedicated to the Word… By reading the Bible privately. By joining others in Bible study. By being a doer of the Word (Luke 8:21 NIV) He replied, "My mother and brothers are those who hear God's word and put it into practice." (James 1:21-22 NIV) Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 4. I will be determined to share the love of God… By loving my neighbor as myself. By discovering and practicing my gifts. By acting with mercy. By giving to the ministry. By sharing the gospel. (Mark 12:31 NIV) 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." (Rom 12:6-8 NIV) We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. (1 Cor 16:2 NIV) On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made. (2 Cor 9:6-7 NIV) Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. (Mat 28:19 NIV) Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (Rom 10:13-14 NIV) "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? |
